HOW DO I NAVIGATE THE
STORE, AND HEAR THE SAMPLES?

The extremeaudio.com web site makes heavy use of Shockwave interactive content, providing a feel more like a multimedia CD-ROM than a typical web site. The TEMPLATE example below, shows the main elements of our interfaces. Read this page carefully if you are having any problems with the extremeaudio.com web site, and it should answer your questions.

If you still run into difficulties, please contact us and we will be happy to help you!

Within the Audio Browse area, the extremeaudio.com site has four basic frames:

  • Site Navigation Tabs - Use these tabs to navigate to different regions and genres of the Audio Browse area
  • Audio Interface - Use this multimedia interface to select from artists in the selected genre, their albums, and samples of the tracks on their albums
  • Buy Me button and Cover image - Here will be an image of the selected artist or album cover, and if the album is for sale there will be a "Buy Me" button. Click on the button or the image to order your copy!
  • Liner Notes - The liner notes show information about the selected genre, artist, or album and its tracks.

Audio Interface
There are different Audio Interfaces for different genres of the extremeaudio.com Audio Browse area. Each interface contains the same components, though they are presented in different ways. Refer to the above image for one example.
  • Time Remaining - This specifies the length of the selected audio sample that is remaining to be played, in minutes and seconds. Most audio samples are one minute in length. If the selected track does not have a sample, the Time Remaining field will say "none".
  • Interactive Track Selection Buttons - Most interfaces have a dozen or so similar objects (window panes, guitar picks, piano keys, etc.) that can be used to select from the first dozen or so tracks of the current album. Click on the first one to select track #1 and play its sample, the second for track #2, and so on. Additionally, there is a "Track" button in the interface that will advance you to the next track of the current album.
  • Whatzits - Click on various objects in the Audio Interface to bring them to life through sound and/or animation.
  • Selection and Playback Control - See the images below for a detailed example. The primary interface elements for selection and playback control include:
    • Stop, Pause and Play Buttons - These buttons work like the Stop, Pause and Play buttons on an audio CD player. Use Play to begin playing a track, Pause to temporarilly stop playing and again to resume from where you paused, and Stop to fully stop playback of the current track.
    • Progress Bar - The progress bar shows what portion of the selected track has preloaded (while blinking) or played. When the bar fills its box, preload or playback is complete.
    • Preload Adjustment - Use this to adjust how much of a track should be preloaded before playback begins. If you have a slow (modem) connection, you will need to have a long preload in order to properly play back the entire sample. To adjust the preload, click and hold your mouse button on the words to bring up a slider control. Still holding the mouse button down, move the mouse up or down to set the length (in seconds of audio sample) of your desired preload.
    • Volume Adjustment - Use this to adjust the system sound volume of your computer (which may not apply to external speakers). Click and hold on the volume icon to bring up a slider control. Still holding the mouse button down, move the mouse up or down to set your system volume.

Artist, Album and Track Selection - Use these controls to select an artist within the selected genre, an album from the chosen artist, and a track from the chosen album. Clicking on the words "Artist", "Album" or "Track", or on the text boxes next to them, will bring up a list of choices for you to choose from (if there is more than selection). Scroll through the list (if there are more than three selections) by clicking on the Up and Down arrows, or by holding the mouse cursor near the top or the bottom of the list. When you see the selection you want, click on it.

Site Navigation Tabs

The Site Navigation Tabs allow you to move from one region or genre of the Audio Browse area to another. Click on a tab to go to the related region or genre.

For the sake of discussion, a "region" is a section of the Audio Browse area that contains one or more "genres" - such as the Music, Words and Kids Korner regions. A "genre" is a specific category of audio in which you can select from artists and their albums.

As you move from one region to another, the tabs will change to reflect the options available within that region. To back up to the previous set of tab options, use the "back" button (the left-pointing arrow) of the Site Navigation Tab bar. To return to the same region's tab options, use the "forward" button.

At any time, you can select the "Order" tab to review the items you have ordered for purchase, and to complete your shopping trip.
